If you want to try it yourself then click the checkbox beside your microphone instead of “CABLE Output”. However, I found that doing so adds more noise to my microphone’s output. "Note (you can ignore this if you don’t know what you are doing): It may be possible to use Equalizer APO to boost your microphone itself instead of the “CABLE Output” virtual audio device that was installed with VB Cable. If you can boost the microphone itself with Peace instead of boosting the “CABLE Output” virtual audio device then maybe you can bypass the confusion. I don't have experience with OBS, but maybe it's confused about which audio devices to use. These steps worked with my analog microphone, but they should also apply to USB microphones: I posted the tutorial on Google Docs because Reddit was screwing up my text formatting. This virtual audio device is then used to boost the microphone signal to levels that Windows normally would not allow, and it does this while adding less noise than an equivalent Windows boost would. This guide bypasses that issue by installing a virtual audio device with its own driver and passing the microphone signal through that.
Somewhere along the line Microsoft screwed up microphone support and made it so microphones that lack their own independent drivers are very quiet. I found that my mic sounded okay in Discord with 100% volume and +20db boosting in Windows, but I was still too quiet in Left 4 Dead 2 and VRchat, so I came up with the steps in this tutorial. Personally, I am using a $5 analog desktop microphone on Windows 10 (64-bit).
This guide applies to external desktop microphones (both analog and USB) being used on Windows 10 (and maybe versions below that) that are too quiet even after turning the microphone volume up to max and boosting its signal by +20db or more using Window's settings.
